Leslie was born in Orpington in South London. She is married to Geoff. After attending Coopers Grammar School, doing ‘A’ levels in French, German and History, she went onto the local technical college to do a bi-lingual secretarial course. On leaving college, she worked for a couple of years in Germany, before returning to the UK where she was employed by the Methodist Church in the Africa Department.
During this time she was heavily involved in a variety of children’s work in the local church she attended in South London. When an opportunity came up to work in the Children’s Department of the Methodist Church, she jumped at it, and was involved in producing resources for churches to use in their mid-week work with children.
Her passion for making God relevant and accessible to children grew into a desire to do the same for adults. She trained and became a lay preacher, with a desire to use language and thoughts that make sense to people today. From there she trained for the Methodist ministry part-time (while still working) at the South East Institute for Theological Education, where she gained a theology degree through Kent University.
The Methodist Church then stationed her to Huddersfield, where she stayed for seven years, with responsibility for four churches and work amongst children and young people. During her time there, the work with children and young people developed, as did work among isolated elderly people, a new departure for Leslie.
During her spare time she enjoys eating out with friends and curling up with a book. However while in Swansea she hopes to make the most of walks along the beach – and may even get a dog!
