- SHG 108 Introduction to Health Sciences (20 credits)
There are 2 compulsory modules for HCSW’s working in band 4 roles or as Assistant Practitioners
- SHG 116 Clinical decision Making for Support Workers
- SHG 117 Consolidating Practice
There are 3 optional modules for HCSW’s not in band 4 or Assistant Practitioner roles
- SHG 120 Starting Your Practice Development
- SHG 122 Policy Influences on Your Practice
- SHG 125 How can I make a change in practice?
This is a certificate programme which delivers 120 credits at level 4. The programme has been developed in close collaboration with the local Health Boards (HB) in response to the Shared Services Partnership, Workforce, Education and Development Services (WEDS) directives and is offered as a full time (one year) or part time (two year) course. The Certificate will be delivered using blended learning including Work Based Learning and attendance at taught modules.
The programme will comprise of 2 core modules that are composite modules delivered as traditional taught modules.
- SHG107 Introduction to Health Care Practice (40 credits)
- SHG108 Introduction to Health Sciences (20 credits)
The students will also pursue an additional 60 credits of optional modules. Students will be profiled by the Programme Director on entry to the programme and will be advised which optional modules should be selected, based on student and employer needs. In most cases this will mean that students currently working in band 4 roles or as Assistant Practitioners will select SHG116 Clinical Decision Making for Support Workers (40 credits) and SHG117 Consolidating Practice (20 credits). Students not working in these roles will usually be encouraged to undertake the work-based learning modules SHG120 Starting Your Practice Development (20 credits), SHG122 Policy Influences on Your Practice (20 credits) and SHG125 How Can I make a Change in Practice (20 credits). However, students may select alternative options from the College module catalogue in consultation with and with the agreement of the Programme Director and their employer.
