Chuanzi Hong, Guangdong, China
Prior to studying the MSc Public Health and Health Promotion at Swansea University, Chuanzi was an undergraduate student of Healthcare Management and Social Marketing at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. Swansea Univerity's existing links with Chuanzi's home institution, along with the helpful staff she encountered when choosing the programme made made her decision to study in Swansea an easy one.
We caught up with Chuanzi to find out about her studies at Swansea University...
Can you tell us about your course?
I am really enjoying Public Health and Health Promotion, it is exactly what I wanted to study. It is about improving population health through health promotion approaches. I like the structure of every module and I like the way my tutors deliver the knowledge. I can feel myself improving and I am full of enthusiasm for my course.
What part of the course do you enjoy the most?
I would say the best part is the design of the course. It contains theories (eg. Foundation in Health Promotion) and practice (eg. Public Health Practice). We not only learn about the external environment of population health (eg. Health Protection) but also how to design and evaluate a health campaign (eg. Developing Programmes and Evaluation).
Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?
Swansea University and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine have a cooperative program so I got the chance to know Swansea University. Secondly, when I started having contact with the staff in Swansea University, I found they are very nice and helpful.
What’s been your highlight whilst studying at Swansea University?
I would say it is my personal independence. Studying and having fun with my friends from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Spain, Colombia, Saudi Arabia and other places is a special experience. They taught me how to balance study and entertainment, how to consider things from different perspectives, how to be full of positive energy. I appreciate my journey in Swansea University, I love it.
What are your plans for the future?
I am trying to set up business in the UK after graduation. I am receiving help from the Institution for Entrepreneurial Leadership at the University, which is very helpful. If I could establish my business, my master's qualification will improve my professionalization and reliability.
Would you recommend Swansea University to other students?
Yes, it is a very beautiful city with clear sky and blue sea (especially in summer), and very warm and friendly citizens. You wouldn’t feel strange or lonely when everybody is smiling at you and saying ‘hi’. Swansea University has high-quality professors and lectures. You can see all the services in this campus are student-centred. The tutors care about you, the librarians care about you, the staff working in the canteen or cafes care about you. I think that everyone should come to experience this lovely campus.
