Di Yang

Prior to studying at Swansea University Di Yang was an undergraduate student studying psychology in Shandong Normal University.  We caught up with Di to find out about her studying experience at Swansea University...

Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?

There was an opportunity for me to study at Swansea University as a visiting student, when I was in level three in Shandong Normal University so I took the opportunity.

Can you tell us about your course?

I’m really happy with my choice.  These modules of this course are all interesting and professional, which enrich my knowledge.   Moreover, the learning methods are different from the traditional methods.  We are not just reading literatures and summarizing them.  We need to put our knowledge into practice.   For instance, one of our assignments was observing children and completed a report, which needed to combine practice with knowledge together.

What part of the course do you enjoy most?

I really appreciate the lectures we had in this course.  All lecturers prepare well for each lecture and passed as much as knowledge they have on us.  They are really happy to answer our questions related to our courses and encourage us to express our opinions.

What has been your highlight whilst studying at Swansea University?

As an international student, except studying, we may meet more problems, like language, homesick, etc.  The student support service in Swansea University can provide really helpful advice to us, which can help us adapt our new life in UK.

What are your plans/hopes for the future?

I hope I can apply my knowledge to early education to develop a happy childhood for young children.

How has your qualification helped your career?

My qualification is like a stepping-stone for my career.  It is the base of realizing my career.

Would you recommend Swansea University to other students?

Of course.  Swansea University can provide students the first-class learning resources and teachers.  All students and stuff are willing to help you to adapt to your new life.  From study to life, you don’t need to worry too much about it.  Thus, be brave to step to your new life!

What advice would you give to students considering postgraduate study?

Working hard is the essential part for academic success.  Postgraduate study is not only reading literatures, but also critical thinking.
