Anna Brown, MA Childhood Studies
"Prior to studying at Swansea University, I was an actress working at an after school programme in New York City. It was there where I discovered my desire and ability to help and support children from various backgrounds and special needs. I decided it would be best to look into this further by studying the development of children and children’s rights.
I chose to study at Swansea University because of its great reputation for student life and my desire to learn more about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is heavily focused on in Welsh education.
My course, Childhood Studies, focused primarily on early childhood development, child safeguarding, and children’s rights. We learned much about the various child developmental theorist and their theories and research.
My studies have already helped me be inspired to write and publish my children’s book, which was not my initially chosen profession. It has also inspired me further to volunteer more time with children’s charities, and to publish more children’s books focusing on children’s rights.
My plan is continue creating a series of books with diverse characters about children’s rights, and eventually expand it to include children’s television program. I also plan to continue my time working and volunteering with children’s charities. I am currently planning a book tour both in the UK and US and hope to expand my book brand into children television and entertainment.
I am absolutely excited that my work has been published, and so far has received such positive feedback from friends, teachers, and parents of new readers. I am pleased to find that my book and its message of tolerance, diversity, and bullying is reaching so many children around the world, and I hope it encourages them to be leaders today for a better world tomorrow."
