Christina Charles, MSc Research Methods in Psychology
What did you do prior to studying at Swansea University?
Before studying at Swansea University, I gained a BSc with a specialisation in Psychology in my hometown of Ottawa. I then spent the next two years travelling around the world and gaining work experience.
Why did you choose to study at Swansea University?
Swansea University offered a taught Master’s programme on Research Methods in Psychology, which was not an option available to me back home. I saw it as a productive way to not only diversify my skills but fulfil my lifelong dream to visit Wales!
What part of the course did you enjoy the most?
My favourite thing about the MSc in Research Methods in Psychology was the wide range of topics that we covered. For instance, I had never had the opportunity to conduct qualitative research before this year.
What’s been your highlight whilst being at Swansea University?
One of my highlights was experiencing the Welsh culture and strong sense of community that Swansea has to offer. During my studies, I worked part time in Mumbles and had the chance to commute to work along the coast by longboard - not many people can say that!
How will your studies help you pursue your chosen profession?
I feel more confident applying for research jobs in Psychology now that I have a diverse set of skills to help me succeed. My aim is to work in the field of research and give back to my community, in Canada.
