What did you do prior to studying at Swansea University?
During a placement module in my last year at Brighton (studying Sports and Exercise), I did a cardiac physiology placement. It was then I realised that this was what I wanted to do after I graduated, so I went about trying to find out how to qualify for the profession.
Why did you choose Swansea University after the clearing process?
I originally applied for a master’s course in cardiac physiology via the NHS Scientist Training Programme but unfortunately, after going through the gruelling interview process, I just missed out.
Panicking slightly due to how late in the year it was, I found one university that provided an undergraduate programme, Clinical Physiology with Cardiology, which was still accepting applications – and it was Swansea!
I was offered an interview for a reserve place as positions had potentially already been filled. Fortunately for me, places did become available after results day and I entered the course via the clearing process with the help from the lecturers who originally interviewed me.
How did you find the clearing process?
The clearing process itself was easy compared to the anxious wait beforehand. Having been to university before I wasn't worried about starting again in Swansea, the course and University has a brilliant reputation, as do the lecturers.
How are you finding the course?
The course itself is challenging - but due to small class sizes, the lecturers and students support each other and get to know one another well. The course offers a variety of university-based lectures, as well as placements within NHS hospitals which suited me well.
Overall, after the initial stumble I am very happy to have got a place at Swansea Uni - even if it was through clearing - which will eventually lead me to my chosen career in cardiac physiology.”
