Welsh Government Master's Bursaries 2018/19

Key Information

The Welsh Government has confirmed additional financial support for Welsh/EU domiciled students starting master's degree courses in September 2018.

621 bursaries of £3,400 each are being offered to eligible students who accept an offer of a place to study a master's course at Swansea University.

The bursaries will be offered on a 'first come, first served' basis.

The eligibility criteria for the bursaries are the same as for the Welsh Postgraduate Loan:

  • Welsh/EU domiciled students.
  • Under the age of 60.
  • Available to those who do not already possess a master's level qualification (PGCert and PGDip holders are eligible for the loan).
  • Non means tested (not dependent on your family's income).
  • Both taught and research master's courses are eligible, including MA, MSc, LLM, MRes, MPhil, MA by Research, and MSc by Research courses.

Bursary recipients are also eligible to apply for the Welsh Postgraduate Loan.

Bursary recipients may apply for any other non-government funded postgraduate awards (as long as you meet all eligiblity criteria), including Swansea University scholarships.

Each bursary is worth £3,400 and does not need to be paid back.

The bursary will be paid in cash instalments and can be used for either tuition fees or living costs.

The first instalment will be paid in November 2018 following confirmation of eligibility and enrolment.

How to Apply

The bursaries will be awarded to the first 621 eligible students who accept their offer of a place to study a master's course at Swansea University.

You will automatically be sent further information following your application for an eligible course.

As the bursaries are being awarded on a 'first come, first served' basis, we recommend that you apply for your chosen course as soon as possible.
