The great outdoors

Out and about...

Swansea is lucky enough to enjoy one of the best locations of any university, giving you numerous opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors.

Our parkland campus sits on the edge of Swansea Bay, close to the stunning scenery of the Gower Peninsula, the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Adjacent to campus are three miles of golden beach leading to the fishing village of Mumbles – a cosy haven of boutiques, restaurants and ice cream parlours, and an ideal spot for a sunny stroll on the prom.

Further west you’ll find the Gower Peninsula - 19 miles of dramatic and picturesque coastline boasting award-winning beaches, dramatic cliff walks and some of the UK’s best surfing beaches.

Our top five Gower highlights:

  • Worm's Head at Rhossili - voted "the most romantic place to see a sunset in the UK" by readers of Country Living magazine
  • Mumbles – home of award-winning local ice cream
  • Three Cliffs Bay – a worthy finalist in ITV's "Britain's Best View"
  • Pwll Du – a hidden gem with sparkling azure seas
  • Cefn Bryn – the second highest point on the Gower, with stunning views of the local scenery

The surrounding area is also worth exploring - within just a few miles you'll find:

  • Afan Forest Park – home to 13 walking trails and 5 world class mountain bike trails. It is the only UK destination to make the "What Mountain Bike Magazine" top ten places to ride before you die
  • Carmarthenshire - the "Garden of Wales"
  • "Waterfall country" - the Vales of Afan and Neath
  • The wild, mountainous beauty of the Brecon Beacons
  • Countless medieval castles and historic monuments.
