Adventurer to open Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol campus event

Swansea University Honorary Fellow, Lowri Morgan will open a special event held by the University’s Branch of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol next Wednesday 5 December 2012.

The adventurous television presenter from Gowerton will launch a new teaching facility on the campus, funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.

The multipurpose teaching room will be a useful resource for students and enable them to participate in both seminars and lectures in various establishments due to the latest e-learning technologies.

Lowri will then inspire students by drawing on her own experience and talking about how best to achieve ambitions and face some of life’s biggest challenges.

Before the end of the day, the Branch’s first ever forum will be held in the company of Swansea University’s Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Iwan Davies and Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s Chief Executive, Dr Ioan Matthews.

The meeting will give staff and students a chance to learn about Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s latest developments and allow them to voice their opinion about Swansea University’s Branch, which was established a year ago under Academi Hywel Teifi.

Professor Iwan Davies, Swansea University’s Pro Vice Chancellor said: ‘‘The new learning space will substantially boost the Welsh language provision at Swansea University and is a worthwhile investment for the future. I look forward to seeing staff and students share ideas and discuss the potential of working across academic disciplines during the forum. I would like to thank the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol for the funding and Lowri Morgan for opening the event.’’

Dr Ioan Matthews, Chief Executive of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol concluded: ‘‘Our aim is to make sure appropriate learning spaces are in place for co-operative provision across Wales to ensure Welsh language medium students receive the best possible education. By working with institutions, the Coleg has already established learning spaces which include the latest video conferencing equipment to enable co-operative teaching provision through the medium o Welsh within six universities across Wales. We are thrilled to launch this learning space in the College’s Branch at Swansea University and are confident that the investment will boost the opportunities available to study through the medium of Welsh at Swansea University.’’
