Celebrating achievement: Winter Degree and Award Congregations 2014

The achievements of more than 1,200 undergraduate and postgraduate students will be celebrated next week on Thursday, January 23 and Friday, January 24, at Swansea University’s Winter Degree and Award Congregations.

Graduates2The Winter Congregations, for students who have successfully completed their studies since July 2013, will take place at the City and County of Swansea’s Grand Theatre. Students will be joined by their families and friends, University officials, academic staff, representatives of the Students’ Union, civic officers and local dignitaries.

The degrees and awards will be received by students from the College of Arts and Humanities, College of Engineering, Academic and Professional Enhancement Centre, Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE), School of Management and College of Law on Thursday and by students from the College of Human and Health Sciences, College of Medicine and College of Science on Friday.

Professor Richard B Davies, Vice-Chancellor of Swansea University, said: “We are once again approaching one of the happiest occasions in the academic year and I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to our students graduating next week.

“The Degree and Award Congregations herald the successful conclusion of a great deal of dedication and effort by our students to complete a degree or award programme.  Our graduates can take justifiable pride in what they have achieved – the qualifications and higher level skills required to pursue a fulfilling and rewarding career – and I wish them every success for the future.

“The congregations also enable us to acknowledge the important role that friends and families play in supporting and encouraging our students throughout their years of study and I am delighted that so many will be able to join us in Swansea next week.

“I hope that this year’s graduates will look back with great affection on their time at Swansea, with its award-winning student experience and unrivalled location, as we look forward to a new era for the University, which will include a greatly-enhanced, globalised student experience for our graduates of the future.”
