From Walter Whittaker to Michael Laudrup: A helter-skelter journey by the Swans to Premiership glory

The first in a new series of free community lectures organised by Swansea University’s Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE) takes place on Thursday, October 10, 2013.

Speaker information:

Professor Geraint H Jenkins is a historian, writer and broadcaster. Professor Jenkins, who lives near Aberystwyth, is the former Head of the Department of Welsh History at Aberystwyth University, former Director of the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, and an Honorary Fellow of Swansea University and Swansea Metropolitan University.

Professor Jenkins is the author of 35 books, mostly on early modern or modern Welsh history, but also on sport, especially soccer. His bestselling “Proud to be a Swan” The Official Centenary History of Swansea City AFC 1912-2012, is published by Y Lolfa.

His link with Swansea began in 1964 when he came to study history under the famous Welsh historian Glanmor Williams and he also played soccer and cricket for the University.

He is a Fellow of the British Academy and the Learned Society of Wales and his hobbies are sport, music and gardening.
