Since 2010 business leaders and owner-managers across Wales have increased their business performance with the help of LEAD Wales, Swansea University's fully-funded Leadership Development Programme.
Hannah Robinson, Director of Steve Robinson Glass Ltd is just one of hundreds to benefit from participation in LEAD Wales' Leadership Development Programme. Here is Hannah's story:
Steve Robinson Glass is a contemporary glass art and design business, specialising in high quality unique handmade glass splashbacks, architectural glass panels and ornamental glass pieces.
Having grown our business steadily but fairly slowly for 10 years we were convinced that we had barely scratched the surface of our potential market, but could not understand what we needed to do differently to grow more significantly.
It sounds like a cliché, but the LEAD Wales Leadership Development Programme does allow you to work ON your business, not just IN your business; to take a step back and evaluate how you are doing things, why you are doing them, and what you could do differently. You get out of the programme what you put in, and it is well worth the effort to attend every session.
We had underestimated the effect that our branding was having and knew it could be better. Embarking on a complete re-branding exercise using a creative agency enabled us to correctly position ourselves with our target market. The team profiling exercise we carried out using the Belbin system identified a major skills gap in our team and we recruited a new staff member with the right characteristics to successfully fulfil this role.
