Showcase event to help businesses benefit from University expertise

Swansea University’s Department of Research and Innovation will hold its annual business event later this month at The Orangery, Margam Park, to showcase the benefits of working with the University’s major projects.

Title: “Improving Business Effectiveness”

Time: 7:45am until 12noon

Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Venue: The Orangery, Margam Park.

The“Improving Business Effectiveness” event, which is free of charge to attend, will include workshops, presentations, exhibitions and networking opportunities, including a breakfast, to enable businesses to speak to University staff and find out about the opportunities to engage with the University’s major projects.

Businesses attending the event will have the opportunity to access information related to a range of University business services including; R&D collaborations, student placements, new product development support, and flexible training for workplace learners.

Ceri Jones, Swansea University’s Acting Director Research and Innovation said: “The Department of Research and Innovation (DRI) offers a wide a range of services for industry, stakeholders and University staff.

“This support will typically include the profiling, delivery and promotion of the University’s research and innovation services in collaboration with research groups and major projects within our seven Colleges and from within DRI’s Business Development Unit.”

David Rosser, Director of Innovation, Welsh Government will deliver the event’s keynote address and other speakers include Professor Richard B Davies, Vice-Chancellor, Swansea University; Professor Iwan Davies, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Swansea University; Professor Marc Clement, Executive Chairman of Institute of Life Science (ILS), Swansea University; and Dr Fiona Withey, Operations Director, Biotec Services International.

Among the exhibitors will be representatives from the following projects and initiatives –   Advanced Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies (ASTUTE); Biorefining Centre of Excellence (BEACON); Careers and Employability Service;  Centre for NanoHealth; Dragon Innovation Partnership; EnAlgae; Enterprise Europe Network; The Farr Institute; Institute of Life Science (ILS); Science and Innovation Campus; Software Alliance Wales, Swansea Materials Research & Testing Ltd SMaRT, Sustainable Product Engineering Centre for Innovation in Functional Coatings (SPECIFIC), and the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating (WCPC).
