Swansea academic to lead UK-Russia workshop for early career researchers in Moscow

Dr Igor Sazonov, a researcher in Swansea University’s College of Engineering, will co-lead a British Council funded UK-Russia workshop for early career researchers in Moscow next April.

Dr Igor SazonovThe three-day workshop, entitled “Mathematical and Computational Modelling in Cardiovascular Problems”, will be held at the Institute of Numerical Mathematics, Moscow, between April 15 and 17, 2014, under the guidance of Dr Igor Sazonov and Dr Yuri Vassilevski, Institute of Numerical Mathematics, Russian Academy of Sciences.

The event has been organised under the British Council Researcher Links scheme and is aimed at early career researchers with less than 10 years of post-PhD research experience.

Dr Igor Sazonov, whose Engineering expertise lies in fluid dynamics, blood flow simulation, mesh generation, geophysics, and acoustics, said: “I am delighted to lead this event in partnership with my colleague Dr Vassilevski, under the British Council Researcher Links scheme.

“The workshop will bring together early career researchers from the UK and Russia to critically assess the current state of the art and future directions in the field of mathematical and numerical cardiovascular modelling.

“It will provide an opportunity for engineers, mathematical and medical experts from both countries to share current results and developments in this field. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the workshop, it provides an excellent opportunity to early career researchers to be enthused and nurtured.”

The workshop will also include contributions from other leading researchers in the field including  Professor Perumal Nithiarasu, Swansea University; Professor Xiaoyu Luo, Glasgow University; Professor Sergey Mukhin, M V Lomonosov Moscow State University; and Dr Rubin R Aliev, Moscow Institute for Physics and Technology.
