Two Swansea University students will be proudly wearing Wales shirts when they run out onto the Colwyn Bay pitch this weekend when the Wales U20 team take on their Irish counterparts in their first Six Nations match
The Wales V Ireland U20 clash takes place on Friday 1st February at 7.10pm at Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay.
The Swansea University students excelled in the extensive selection nomination and trial process with the result that Prop Nicky Thomas and Centre Steffan Hughes have made the team to play Ireland.
Both Nicky and Steffan are 1st year Sports Science students. Nicky and Steffan regularly turn out for their Swansea University team when not playing for the Ospreys (Nicky) and Scarlets (Steffan).
Richard Lancaster, Swansea University coach said: “ We are really pleased that so many players from our first team have been selected for representational honours and this again highlights the high standard of rugby at the University and the development players undergo whilst here. It is encouraging we now have players representing the University who are gaining honours at all levels.”
The Six Nations experience and training will help the Swansea University players in their preparation for the forthcoming Welsh Varsity match.
