Chaired Bard and University Professor explores Carmarthenshire’s poetic tradition

Professor Tudur Hallam from Swansea University’s Academi Hywel Teifi features in a new collection of poems by Carmarthenshire poets, ahead of this year’s Carmarthenshire National Eisteddfod in August.

Beirdd Bro Eisteddfod Sir Gar SML‘Beirdd Bro Eisteddfod Sir Gâr’ (Cyhoeddiadau Barddas) celebrates the wealth of poetry by some of Carmarthenshire’s finest poets, and includes the works of 19 poets, six of which are Chaired Bards.

Professor Hallam, from Folegastell, Carmarthenshire, has written the foreword for the volume, which also includes several of his poems. The foreword looks at many of the poets’ works, including Lewys Glyn Cothi, William Williams Pantycelyn and J. Eirian Jones, and describes how the riches of poetry from the area have contributed to Welsh history.

The volume’s official launch will be held at Carmarthen Football Club, Parc Waundew, Priory Street, on Thursday, 19 May at 8pm. The volume will also feature at the Dinefwr Literature Festival on Saturday, 21 June, at 10pm.
