Open Day Top Tips for Students

Preperation ahead of an Open Day is key in ensuring you get everything you want out of it, from understanding how your chosen course is taught, to getting to know lecturers, the campus and surrounding areas.

You will spend at least 3 years at university so it’s important that you have it sussed out before you enrol in September 2019!

To make things easier for you, we’ve given you our top tips for tackling an Open Day- head on. We’ve also included a list of suggested questions to ask during your visit - so you get the most out of having access to lecturers and current students.

Open Day Top Tips

  • Make a plan: Familiarise yourself with the Open Day’s timetable. Look at what you’d like to attend and when – it’s the best way of making sure you don’t miss out on anything. The School of Management timetable will be available soon from this webpage.
  • Allow plenty of time for travel: You don’t want to turn up late and miss anything. It’s also, worth sussing out where the nearest car park is or familiarise yourself with public transport links to the campus.
  • Don’t be shy: If you arrive and feel a little overwhelmed and lost, please ask any member of university staff for help! Customer Service is their thing and they love helping you get to where you need to be.
  • Welcome talks: Welcome Talks are a great way to get to know the University and the School of Management; they’ll also give you an overview of how your day will unfold and who you should speak to for any advice.
  • Make Friends: We’re not expecting you to become BFFs with someone at an Open Day but chat to other people who are in the same situation as you. It’s good to talk and they may give you some tips too. Although going to University is a big step, you’ll be surprised how quickly you bond with other students.
  • Prepare your parents or guardians: If you’re being accompanied by your parent or guardian chat to them about your plan ahead of the day. Explain to them the key things you want to see and share with them the list of questions you want to ask. If they know you’re prepared, they’ll be less likely to take-over on the day itself.

Top 20 questions to ask at the Open Day
