    This module provides an introduction to student skills, learning skills, IT skills, communication skills and elements of Health Informatics that prepares the student for work in the clinical environment of the National Health Service as an Assistant/Associate audiology practitioner.

  • SHC230 Professional Practice 2

    This module follows from the year 1 module in Professional Practice and further develops some topics as well as introducing others. The material is designed to provide support knowledge for the Healthcare Science student in their professional practice.

  • SHG108 An Introduction to Health Sciences

    This module will introduce the student to normal anatomy and physiology, key sociological and psychological concepts and principles of health promotion. Completion of this module supports the student in acquiring the knowledge to apply understanding of abnormal physiology to patient physical states. Through a variety of learning strategies the student is supported to appreciate how health education and health promotion can have a positive effect upon patient wellbeing.

    This module explores process approaches to programme planning, evaluation models and the concepts of quality assurance in relation to health promotion.

    This module provides a sound basis for a greater understanding of health promotion and health education to enable students to utilise health promotion in practice.

  • SHHM23 Advancing Practice in End of Life Care

    This module is designed to enable those involved in the provision of end of life care to develop a deeper understanding of the current issues specific to their own area of practice.

  • SHHM54 Care Decisions for the Last Days of Life

    This interprofessional module aims to prepare health professionals working in hospital settings to utilise the All Wales Care Decisions Tool for the Last Days of Life. Specifically it aims to equip health professionals with the knowledge, skills and understanding to provide effective collaborative care and support for people in the last days of life and their families.

  • SHHM55 Introduction to Research, Evidence based Practice and Reflection for Physicians Associates

    This module will be a compulsory module within the MSc / Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) Physician¿s Associate Studies and reflects compulsory curriculum content. The module aims to introduce students to the main research paradigms including the principles of research, and the ability to appraise research to provide an evidence base for their personal practice. Students will also be introduced to reflective practice and its value in enabling reflection on clinical learning and the development of clinical competence.

    This core module addresses specific keys areas relating to the fundamentals of nursing practice and clinical exposure encompassing mandatory training. The module will introduce students to the profession of nursing, the underpinning values of the nursing profession and the professional codes of practice. The importance of patient dignity, respect, care and compassion will be integrated throughout the module and related to safe, person-centred care. The module will introduce the students to meeting the client/service user¿s physical and emotional needs.

    This module will allow students to gain insight into the clinical decision making process its importance in planning safe and effective care to a range of service users/clients. The module will explore the development of nursing and its values. The theories of nursing and the nursing process will be introduced.

  • SHN128 Developing Nursing Knowledge (Adult)

    This module aims to equip student nurses to work with individuals, service users, carers and the multi disciplinary team when planning and providing appropriate evidence based care. The concepts of Clinical Governance and clinical assessment and decision making will be explored. The module will build on previous knowledge to facilitate the development of theoretical and practical knowledge so that the individual can recognise and act when there is a risk to the client/service user of physical or mental health problems across the lifespan.

  • SHN3055 Managing Complex Care in Rapidly Changing Situations (Adult)

    This module aims to give an overview of specialist aspects of nursing practice, especially when care can be considered complex and situations rapidly change. The module also aims to give a greater insight into the application of legal, ethical and professional issues to practice. This module draws on the content of modules within Years 1 and 2 and experiences in practice to consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitude for professional practice in the field of adult nursing.

  • SHNM00 Introduction to Nursing (Adult)

    This module will enable students to develop the knowledge, skills and professional values that underpin safe, effective, evidence-based practice. A range of teaching methods will be used to develop fundamental nursing skills including, bio science, infection prevention and control, moving and handling; vital signs; recognition and response to abnormal parameters; nursing documentation; therapeutic management of aggression and de-escalation; fundamental care delivery; basic life support; and introduction to medicines management. Students will learn about historical and contemporary nursing practices and explore how nursing will develop in the future.

  • SHTM36 Teaching and Learning in Practice

    The aim of the module is to enable practitioners to demonstrate their development in relation to personal development planning and work based learning.
