Social life and student events

Year-round student events

The social life at Swansea University is regularly voted one of the best in the country.

Surprised?  Swansea may be a relatively small city, but the University's social facilities and activities are rated 2nd and 3rd best in the UK.

Student events at Swansea University

Student Swansea Events

Our Students' Union 'Ents' department (Student Swansea Events) is responsible for organising year-round student events, including Freshers' Fortnight, and seven different club nights every week during termtime.

One of the year's highlights is the festival-style Summer Ball, which takes place on the University's Abbey Meadow and regularly attracts big acts - headliners have included Feeder (2009), Florence and the Machine (2010), The Streets (2011), Pixie Lott, Tim Minchin and Rudimental (2012), Sub Focus and Professor Green (2013).

Another highpoint is the Welsh Varsity Challenge - the second largest of the British varsity games (behind Oxford/Cambridge). Thousands of Swansea University students - our 'Green and White Army' - travel to compete and support our teams in Cardiff, making Varsity the biggest social event of the year.

In addition to organised events, the Students' Union operates several of its own bars and clubs, while central Swansea has a wide range of venues including the huge Oceana club complex, and the city's main strip, Wind Street.

...And not forgetting the Taliesin Arts Centre, our on-campus cinema, performance space and gallery, which hosts a busy programme of events throughout the year.
